For funny books, my standbys are P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves & Wooster series. I literally have them all--even the hard to find final one. They are absolutely worth trying--they're about the fun, light-hearted adventures of a 1920s era British aristocrat who says things like "with knobs on, I told him, and I meant it to sting".
It has great 1920s slang and the whole thing is humorous. Bertie Wooster gets stuck in strange situations and his brilliant, too smart valet Jeeves helps save him. Hugh Laurie plays Bertie and Stephen Fry plays Jeeves in the tv series, which was extremely cute and fun to watch; more info here.
For a fun read, I also turn to the more recent books [mostly just the early ones] of Janet Evanovich about the sweet attempt of a clumsy regular gal Stephanie to become a bounty hunter just to pay her rent. The first book One for the Money is fun and a great time [there was a movie made, which is worth it for the time Ranger is on screen]. Stephanie and Ranger [played by Daniel Sunjata in the movie] are great to read about, he always seems ready to go off on crazy adventures himself.
Also, Daniel Sunjata is just fine.
